3 More Days Until Halloween!

3 More Days Until Halloween!!! But who's counting? :)

So my son is having his costume parade at daycare this Friday, and I"m so excited for him!

I'm also SUPER excited for ME because I am officially DONE with his Trick-a-Treating goodie bags for the parade!  With a not-so-happy and lil' hungry baby in tow, I have to say I did a pretty good job today navigating through the crowded aisles at the supermarket trying to find age-appropriate treats for toddlers, chips for the Sandwich Day they will be having next week, and other miscellaneous things.

So here they are......!!! When the going gets tough, Cracker Jack saved the day along with some glow sticks of course!

In the classroom this week, we are busy working on identifying greater and less than, adjectives, and story elements.  Grab your story element FREEBIE below!

What are you currently working on in the classroom?

It's the Sunday Scoop!

I'm linking up with the Teaching Trio again to bring to you my Sunday Scoop!

HAVE: Every year we try to dress up together as a family, and I can't wait to finish up my hubby's Halloween costume since the baby's and mine are about done.  And yes, I will definitely post up pictures of our family when it's done! :)

I know I'm becoming a little too paranoid, but after having my home laptop crashed about 3 times this year, I am counting the stars everyday that I had luckily backed up everything, especially all my son's baby pictures before the laptop simply went dead.  So happy too that my sweet hubby was able to revived the laptop time after time for me.  He's definitely a keeper!

4 more days until Halloween, and I can't wait for my kids to see all the things I have planned for them! Below is an adjective activity that we'll be doing in class.  Click to the files to download your FRANKENSTEIN FREEBIE!

HOPE: My sweet sister, Alina (who also has an awesome California Style Blog: Style by Alina) gifted me a giftcard for my birthday, so Fall Clothes Shopping it is!!! And since the weather is feeling like it's summer again (90 degrees today in Texas), it's time to take a walk in the park and chase around a two-year old with his soccer ball!

HAPPY: So happy I got a chance to attend the Dallas Blogger Meet-Up this weekend! It was my first Blogger Meet-Up ever, and I have to admit that I was super nervous going.  And of course, I stressed out BIG TIME on what to wear! Truly it felt like going on a first date but meeting 16 other teacher friends!  But I'm so glad I attended and got to meet so many new friends as we chit-chatted about our teaching and blogging experiences.  Here are some pictures of our Meet-Up below.

Special thanks to Amber from Peppy Zesty Teacherista and Ashley and Amanda from For His Glory for hosting such a fun and awesome meet-up!

And look at the amazing door prizes that I won!!! This super cute pair of earring are made by Stephanie from Mrs. D's Corner!

And look what I also WON!!!  Will definitely put these to good use come Monday morning! :)

The beginning of the year is a great time to either introduce, practice or do a quick run through of syllables, so why not do a SYL·LA·BLE PAR·TY???!!! Invite all the kids down to the rug, breakdown what a syllable is, put your hands together, and get clappin' away!

If you are down for a good time on the rug, download this FREEBIE for your classroom!  For more syllable fun, check out my complete Syllables Packet {Signs, Games, & Activities K-1}.

October Currently

I have been wanting to do this but have gotten so extremely busy.  Yet, I know time is of the essence and since it's the 20th already (11 more days until Halloween!!!!), I must do it now before October is long gone.  So today, I'm linking up with Oh Boy It's Third Grade to bring to you my October Currently.

One of my favorite months of the year, is definitely October....well, I'm biased.. It's my Birthday Month!  Yes, there I said it.  And since I'm all about celebrating (fall, my birthday, and Halloween), I <3 October! :)

Listening: I am a traveler at heart, and no song speaks to me more than Clean Bandit's Rather Be right now.  It reminds me of all the good memories that I have shared with my family traveling and spending time together.

Loving: I love my birthday weekend so much, which was actually last weekend!  To celebrate my birthday, my boys and I flew to Colorado and experienced autumn in the Rocky Mountains for the first time.  From visiting the Garden of the Gods to taking the Cog Railway Train to the peaks of Rockies and to visiting the big red rocks and dinosaur fossils, it was definitely a wonderful and memorable trip!

Thinking: I am thinking of the North Texas Blogger Meet Up that I will be attending soon.  I'm so excited to meet some new friends who share my passion for teaching, and the best part is, we're all from North Texas! :)

Wanting & Needing:  A Spa Day please..... All I can say is, "Calgon, take me away...please..." :)

Treat!  Yes!  I'm all about the Treat and Freebies!  Below is a spider KWL chart freebie that I'm currently using in my classroom.  I can't wait to do the rest of the spider activities that I have planned for my students this week!  I will definitely post up pictures soon!

Have a great week!

It's a...a..a...SPIDER!!!!

What's  more fun during the fall to teach about than bats?!  SPIDERS, of course!  With students coming in with such rich background knowledge and varied experiences with spiders, it's definitely a fun topic to discuss, learn, and write about!  In addition, it's also so relevant at this time of the year as they see cobwebs and spider decorations everywhere.

To make students' learning more engaging and reflective, I love making KWL charts with my students at the beginning of every new topic.  Below is a FREEBIE that you can use for your class. Simply click to the image below to download.

Another favorite idea of mine is this spider activity packet!  It is filled with graphic organizers on spiders and becomes a book on spiders for students to share and keep.  All the tracers, parts of a spider, and graphic organizers (they all fit the size and shape of the spider's body) are all included!  All the writing activities are meaningful, engaging, and arranged two to a page to save paper from printing.  Yes, I'm all about saving paper! :)

I have also asked my BLOGGER FRIENDS to link up their SPIDER resources.  Please check them out below.

It's All About the Bats, the Bats, and a FREEBIE!

It's getting a little batty in our classroom with so much reading and writing about our favorite topic of the week- BATS!

Here's one of the activities that we are doing this week.

First, we read some nonfiction books about bats then brainstormed and made a list of facts and myths. From this list, the students then chose one fact and one fictional statement about bats and wrote them into their Fact & Fiction boxes.  After completion, students cut and glued their boxes onto their bats.

What's your favorite bats activity?

If you would like the make your own Fact & Fiction Bat, click to the images below and download a copy for FREE!

I have also invited my Blogger Friends to share their paid and FREE resources below.  Please check them out!

A Sweet Surprise

Jennifer from Everything Just So so kindly nominated my blog for the Liebster Blog Award for new blogs! The intention of this award is to help grow followers and traffic for new blogs with less than 200 followers while also connecting with other bloggers out there.  Part of accepting the award is to answer a series of questions to help readers become more familiar with me and nominate 11 other new blogs that fit the criteria.

Before I get to the nominations, here's my Q&A with Jennifer.

1. How long ago did you start blogging?
I started blogging consistently this year as a way to share my teaching resources and ideas and connect with other wonderful teachers in the Blogsphere.

2. What one word sums up the heart of your blog and why?
Joy.  I enjoy teaching and love celebrating the people and joys in my life including my small family, teaching, and my resources.  My goal is that my readers find something helpful that they can implement in their classrooms, and share a piece of my life as a wife, mommy, and teacher with me.

3. Is there something you learned late in your blog journey you wished you knew before?
Connect.  Connect.  Connect.  One of the best things about having a blog is being able to connect with other teachers and teacher bloggers out there.  From participating in Giveaways, Facebook Groups for Teacher Bloggers, and Linky Parties, I have met so many great teachers.

4. What is your favorite past time other than blogging?
I love photography and traveling.  Photography allows me to chronicle memories and events in my life and traveling allows me to learn more about the wonderful world and people that the Lord has created.

5. How many hours per week do you dedicate to blogging?
Sometimes it me takes 3-4 hours or even more.  It really depends on the content of the post.

6. What category of blog posts do you enjoy most?
I love learning of new ideas that I can immediately implement in my classroom.  I'm all about new and good ideas and how I can employ new strategies to help my students.

7. Where does your blog inspiration come from?
My inspiration really comes straight from my classroom.  I believe that being authentic is key in building strong relationships.  Therefore, I only create and share resources that I strongly stand behind, reflect my teaching philosophy, and truly fit my students' needs.  My students are my main priority as a teacher, and they give me the inspiration I need to share my ideas.

8. What post that you've written are you most proud of?
I'm most proud of posts that highlight my students' work along with teaching ideas for other teachers.  I love showing off how great my students are and if another teacher 'likes' or 'Pins' an idea that I share, it makes blogging all worthwhile.

9. Is there any post that you have been planning to do, but have postponing it for a while now?
I would love to capture more teaching moments in my classroom and share them more often.

10. What is your favorite aspect of blogging?
My favorite part of blogging is definitely being able to connect , share, and learn from other teachers.

11. What recipe, project, or idea on my blog would you be mostly to try yourself?
I like the "Currently" post, as I have seen it on other teachers' blogs.  I have not gotten a chance to do it myself, but would love to do one.

And now.... (Drum Roll Please......) The nominations!  These nominees come straight from a group of Bloggers that I am a part of.  We are all about supporting and BOOSTING each other, and I am so glad I am able to give them a little boost myself!

Congratulations to all the nominated bloggers!  To accept your nomination, please nominate 11 other new blogs, write a post on your nomination, link back to me, and include your Q&A with the award button . :)
