Nine summers ago I moved from Kentucky to Texas. Only a month from graduating and three days after our wedding, my husband and I packed up all my belongings into my compact car and headed down to Texas. Yes, I cried all the way and not just regular crying....We are talking about UGGGGLLLY crying while listening to the Dixie Chicks on repeat. Ha!
So there I was leaving everything and everyone I grew up with and did I say a possible teaching position at the elementary school that I went to for kindergarten and first grade?! Yes, I did. But not for anyone, it was afterall my high school sweetheart and now, sweet husband. I knew the wonderful adventures that were ahead of us and the new opportunities that were awaiting. Nonetheless, I had to cry.
So after a full summer of job hunting and waiting for all my teaching credentials to transfer, I finally landed an interview.... on the day of MEET THE TEACHER!!! Wow! Was I nervous?! Yes! Terrified out of my mind! But I kept my composure and everything went well. So I went home and waited for a phone call that I had been waiting all my life! But the phone didn't ring...and so I called. :)
To my very surprise, the school thought someone had already called to tell me that I was a candidate for another elementary school! Cut to the chase, I called the school that I didn't interview for and was offered a job 15 minutes before Meet the Teacher Night as a first grade teacher! Excited, elated, petrified, and relieved all wrestled inside of me! But honestly, that was the best way to start my teaching career as it taught me that teaching is both exciting and unpredictable.
Nine years at one district, two babies, three teams, 190+ students, and countless sweet memories of teaching later, I am starting another adventure!
This time, I'm going back to second grade but moving into a different classroom, school, district, and curriculum- STEM!
I'm so excited for this wonderful new opportunity to learn about STEM and continue to grow as a teacher!
In addition, I love photography so much that I have decide to take this sweet hobby of mine and create picture perfect photos to be used for various social media platforms (hence this post's photo). :) As I create more, I will definitely share them with you as FREEBIES! Below is the first FREEBIE! Simply click to the image below, save, and use it to make your own blog title photo!
I am also super excited to share that I have finally completed my First Grade Social Studies Curriculum Bundle! This has been a true labor of love as each unit was created out of necessity and with my sweet students in mind from the beginning to the end. It is a growing bundle therefore as more units are created, more will be added for redownloading! If you would like to check it out, click to the image below.
So yes, there is a lot of things going on at the moment....but I'm so ecstatic that I will be documenting my journey here on my blog! From setting up my new classroom, to my STEM trainings, to all the new ideas I learn along the way, and all the other adventures in between, I hope to share them here with you!
And I promise, this time there will be no UGLY crying. :)
Please stay tuned!
